The area around Smarden makes it very clear why Kent is often referred to as 'the Garden of England': picturesque houses, beautifull lawns, glowing landscapes, wide views, perfect for walking, touring, or just enjoying a quiet day. If you like good food, there are excellent local inns.
 

Smarden itself has been nominated often as the best kept village in Kent. Pluckley on the other hand has a reputation as the most haunted village.
